2.5 Glove donning, sensors and calibration

The M4 uses a left-hand glove and a right-hand gun controller. The left-hand glove does not include a joystick or A/B buttons, and you still need to select a size based on your palm circumference when purchasing.

Choose glove size

Use a flexible measuring tape to measure the palm circumference along the base of the thumb and around the palm, excluding the thumb.

Glove palm circumference measurement instructions
Keep the tape close to the skin and do not tighten too much.
size Palm circumference
S 18.5-20 cm
M 20-21.5 cm
L 21.5-23 cm
XL 23-24.5 cm
Glove size and appearance comparison
The outer size is only used to understand the glove size and does not replace the palm circumference measurement.

How to wear gloves correctly

  1. Keep your hands dry and remove rings, bracelets, and other items that may scratch your gloves.
  2. Insert the five fingers of your left hand into the corresponding finger sleeves, and let the fingertips naturally expose.
  3. Arrange the fabric on the palms and backs of your hands to avoid wrinkles that would interfere with bending.
  4. Adjust the wrist strap so that the gloves do not slip and the skin is not pressed.
  5. Open your hand naturally, bend it finger by finger, and make a fist to make sure the fabric is not twisted and your wrist can move freely.

Glove donning and setting tutorial

Demonstrates left hand glove donning, wrist strap adjustment, TMR/N52 inspection and pre-connection preparation.

Tutorial video will be available soon

Adjust TMR and N52

  • The N52 permanent magnet module is placed at the middle phalanx of the finger.
  • The TMR sensor module is placed at the proximal phalanx of the finger.
  • N52 meets TMR at the joint between the middle and proximal phalanx.
  • When your hands are flat, the triangular arrow on the N52 module should face the direction of your fingernail.
The placement of TMR and N52
TMR is located in the near-section area, and N52 is located in the mid-section area.
N52 triangle arrow direction
N52 The triangular arrow points toward the nail.
Sensor location when making a fist
The sensor should not rotate, lift, or compress the joint after making a fist.

Glove data box button

The glove data box only provides power and menu/calibration keys, and does not include a joystick or A/B keys.

Glove data box power button and menu button
The power button is used to power on; double-click the menu button to enter or exit calibration mode.

Install the left hand glove clamp

  1. Confirm that the clamp matches the current VR controller model and confirm the left and right orientation.
  2. Align the clamp with the installation position of the glove data box and use corresponding fasteners to fix it evenly.
  3. Install the left hand VR controller and confirm that the tracking structure, buttons and joysticks are not blocked.
  4. Rotate your wrist and complete the movements of opening your hand and making a fist, and confirm that the clamp, wires and finger modules do not interfere with each other.

Align fixtures, data boxes and fasteners.
Complete installation of left-hand glove and clamp
After installation, check the wrist and finger space.

finger mapping

  • Index finger flexion maps to trigger input.
  • Middle finger, ring finger, and little finger flexion are mapped to grip input.
  • Palm straightness and finger flexion can affect the screenshot of the M4 menu key or the SteamVR menu behavior.
Left hand glove input area
The index finger is responsible for the trigger; the last three fingers are responsible for holding.
Left hand glove bending input signal
Bend your fingers naturally to check for trigger and grip input.

Next step

After completing donning and sensor adjustment, proceed to 3.3 Calibrating the Data Glove. This page does not repeat the calibration action.
