4.1 Configure the Position Tracking Source

The glove provides finger bending data, and the controller or Tracker provides the hand spatial position. Select the left and right hand position sources based on the current hardware combination.

Steps

  1. First confirm that the controller or Tracker itself can provide the position normally in SteamVR.
  2. Record the actual display name and ID of the left and right controllers or Tracker in the SteamVR device list.
  3. Enter VR type and controller position/tracking source settings in HiggloveNg.
  4. When using an all-in-one controller, select the corresponding controller according to the left and right marks in the device list. Some environments may display names such as Controller_LEFT and Controller_RIGHT, but these are only examples; always use the current list.
  5. When using Tracker or other location devices, first confirm the ID of each Tracker, then select the specified device and set the left and right sources respectively.
  6. Select the VR type, location source and device type that are consistent with the real thing from the current list and save the settings.

When the “Headset” drop-down is blank, HiggloveNg uses the saved custom offsets for both hands. Items shown for device presets may vary by version.

Custom Offset for Both Hands

If a built-in device preset does not fully match the current mount or wearing position, you can adjust the offset for each hand separately. Device presets and custom offsets are two different workflows: select the actual controller or Tracker when using a built-in preset; when using custom offsets, leave the “Headset” drop-down blank the next time HiggloveNg starts.

  1. Adjust the left-hand and right-hand offsets separately in HiggloveNg.
  2. Move both hands slowly in SteamVR and confirm that the displayed positions match your actual hands.
  3. When the adjustment is complete, close HiggloveNg directly. The software retains the current parameters.
  4. The next time HiggloveNg starts, do not select any item in the “Headset” drop-down.
  5. When the drop-down is blank, HiggloveNg applies the custom offsets you saved for both hands.

Recover After Selecting a Headset by Mistake

If you accidentally select another headset, close and restart HiggloveNg. Once the “Headset” drop-down is blank again, leave it unchanged to resume using your custom offsets.

Expected Result

The source and device ID of the left and right hand positions are consistent with the real thing. When moving the hands slowly, the left and right positions do not interchange or continuously jump.

If the Check Fails

When swapping left and right hands, recheck the actual device name and ID. Do not judge based on the example string alone. When the finger movement is normal but the position is abnormal, give priority to checking the position tracking device, left and right sources, and current combination. Do not cover up position link problems by repeatedly calibrating the finger.
